About the Project
The Towns of Colrain and Charlemont are building stronger, more connected neighborhoods. Through the Neighborhood Resilience Networks project, neighbors will connect, share skills, prepare for emergencies, and support one another when it matters most.

Why Neighborhood Resilience?
When disaster strikes, the transportation and communication networks we normally rely on can fail. Roads can wash out, communication systems can break down, and we may find it harder to get the help we need.
To prepare for these situations, the towns of Charlemont and Colrain are working to strengthen neighborhood networks.
Neighborhood Resilience Networks hopes to cover the towns of Charlemont and Colrain with small, cohesive neighborhood networks of 7-10 households each. Our goal is to make sure that no resident is alone in a disaster. And, in the process, build community, strengthen social connections, and improve emergency response.

Who is organizing this effort?
The idea for the Neighborhood Resilience Network came from the Towns of Colrain and Charlemont's Massachusetts Municipal Vulnerability Program (MVP) 2.0 project in 2026, when community input revealed a need for stronger community connections and communication to improve resilience to disasters. The project is organized by Town staff, Dodson & Flinker (consultants for the Towns), and a steering committee of community members. It is funded by the MVP 2.0 Planning Grant.

“All of us, at some time or other, need help. Whether we’re giving or receiving help, each one of us has something valuable to bring to this world. That’s one of the things that connects us as neighbors—in our own way, each one of us is a giver and a receiver.”
- Mr. Rogers
